Switzerland :Open PhD Positions in Computer Graphics

Two full time PhD positions, starting summer 2010, are open at the Computer Vision and Geometry Group of ETH Zurich and at the Computer Graphics and Geometry Laboratory of EPFL Lausanne.

The Institute of Cartography of ETH Zurich, the Computer Vision and Geometry Group of ETH Zurich, and the Computer Graphics and Geometry Laboratory of EPFL Lausanne collaborate in developing new digital methods for cartographic terrain visualization in both 2D and 3D. We concentrate on new methods for generating panorama maps, distorted 2D terrain maps, shaded relief maps, non-photorealistic rock drawing and hatched 3D representations. We plan to apply and develop methods of morphometric terrain analysis, non-linear optimization for shape deformation, and image-based modeling and rendering. For more details, please refer to http://jenny.cartography.ch/terrainvisualization.html

We are looking for two PhD candidates to collaborate in this project for three years. Candidates must have a strong background in computer graphics, geovisualization or cartography and hold a master's degree in one of these or a related field. Strong programming skills and fluent written English are mandatory. Salaries are according to ETH and EPFL rates. We offer a stimulating and enjoyable working environment in competitive, internationally oriented research groups.

Should you be interested in one of the two positions, please apply via email to Mark Pauly, Computer Graphics and Geometry Laboratory, EPFL Lausanne (mark.pauly@epfl.ch), or Marc Pollefeys, Computer Vision and Geometry Group, ETH Zurich (marc.pollefeys@inf.ethz.ch). In your application you should include your CV with a list of past related projects, and a personal statement why you are interested in this position.

If you would like any more information, please feel free to contact Bernhard Jenny, Institute of Cartography, ETH Zurich: jenny@karto.baug.ethz.ch
