Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application:
Post-doc in Chemical Physics
Ultrafast molecular dynamics probed by time-resolved X-ray diffraction and femtosecond spectroscopy
at the Department of Photochemistry and Molecular Science. Period of appointment: 2 years starting as soon as possible.
A postdoctoral position is open within the field of photo-induced structural dynamics in solution probed by time-resolved wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS). This is a new and emerging technique which has successfully been applied in studies of the reaction mechanism of small molecules but also recently used for probing conformational dynamics of proteins in the liquid phase.
Project description: In this project we will investigate the structural dynamics in various molecular systems including processes in biomolecules, e.g. the folding/unfolding processes in small proteins. In the latter case the project has an element of methodology development. The ongoing research program involves pump-X-ray probe experiments at synchrotron beam-lines as well as conventional femtosecond pump-probe experiments in our laboratory.
Qualifications/eligibility: A suitable background is a PhD in Chemistry or Physics, with a component of physical chemistry/chemical physics, molecular spectroscopy and theoretical modelling. Previous experiences in time-resolved X-ray methods, synchrotron radiation or femtosecond spectroscopy is a merit. To be eligible for the position the applicants must be holders of a doctoral degree not older than three years; however, periods of sick leave, parental leave, and military service are deducted from the three-year period.
Uppsala University is striving to achieve a more equal gender balance among its researchers therefore female candidates are particularly invited to apply.
The Department of Photochemistry and Molecular Science was formed in 2006 as one of four departments within the Chemistry section at Uppsala University. The department has about 60 researchers and doctoral students and is situated in a new building at the Ångström Laboratories in Uppsala. The research spans from chemical physics/physical chemistry via chemical synthesis and biochemistry to molecular biology which reflects the interdisciplinary profile at the department. The application must contain a letter in which the applicant describes her/himself, her/his qualifications, and interests. It must contain a CV, copies of relevant grades, contact information of minimum two reference persons that are not related to each other, copies of the applicant's doctoral thesis or an outline thereof, and previous research publications.
