Sweden : PhD position in Micro- and Nanofluidics at the Department of Engineering Sciences

Post doc position in Micro- and Nanofluidics

at the Department of Engineering Sciences, the Ångström Laboratory.

Period of appointment: 2 years. Starting date: To be agreed upon, but preferably before end of year 2009.
On the micro- and nanoscale the behaviour of fluids is dominated by, e.g., surface tension, energy dissipation, and viscosity, rather than by inertial forces. Scientifically, the micro- and nanofluidics field concerns either the study of these flows, or means to alleviate or exploit the effects arising from downscaling in miniaturized fluidic systems for use in research, medicine or technology.

The work will be in a research project in micro- and/or nanofluidics, in one or several of the research areas of research groups in the department. Examples of such interests are micro- or nanofluidic components or systems for: aerospace, aquatic climatology, hydraulics and pneumatics, immunology, material analysis, microcryogenics, neuroscience, resonant sensors, and wireless networks.

Qualifications: PhD degree in relevant area. Experience from micro- and nanofluidics. Presented skills in writing a strong research plan in the subject.

To be eligible for the position, the applicant must hold a PhD degree obtained within five years from the application date – a period prolonged only for special reasons such as periods of parental leave.

The application should be written in English and should include a short description of the applicant and his/her research interests, a resume, and copies of relevant examination certificates, the PhD thesis, relevant scientific publications and other applicable documents (e..g. letters of recommendation), as well as names and contact information of reference persons. In addition, the applicant shall submit a short and visionary yet tangible research proposal (max 10 pages) targeting in this research field one or more research interests of the department.
