Phd position in Molecular Biology/Chemistry ,Ireland


Location: Teagasc – Kinsealy, Dublin
Description:
Profiling Phytochemical and Nutritional Components of Potato
A 4 year PhD scholarship, funded by the Teagasc Walsh Fellowship programme is available at the Kinsealy Research and Development Centre and the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences (University College Cork). The project will evaluate the phytochemical and nutritional profile of a range of potato varieties with the objective of identifying those with optimal nutritional and phytochemical content. Levels of expression and allelic variation of key genes involved in synthesis of phytochemical and nutritional components of interest will be examined for cultivars showing contrasting levels of accumulation of nutritional or phytochemical metabolites. The successful candidate will be based at Teagasc Kinsealy.
Qualifications:

The candidate must (or expect to have) at least an upper second class honours degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Food Science or a related discipline. Experience with molecular biology techniques and/or HPLC would be an advantage. The value of the scholarship is Euro 21,000 per annum including postgraduate registration fees.
The project is jointly supervised by Professor Nora O'Brien of the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, University College Cork  and Dr Kim Reilly of Teagasc, Kinsealy Research and Development Centre.
