S. government through the administration of programs offering graduate, postdoctoral, and senior level research opportunities at sponsoring federal laboratories and affiliated institutions.

General Description

In these programs, prospective applicants select a research project or projects from among the large group of opportunities listed on this website. Prior to completing an application, prospective applicants should contact the proposed Research Adviser to assure that funding will be available if their application is recommended by NRC panels. Once mutual interest is established between a prospective applicant and a Research Adviser, an application is submitted through the NRC WebRap system. Reviews are conducted four times each year and review results are available approximately 6-8 weeks following the application deadline.

Prospective applicants should read carefully the details of the program to which they are applying. In particular, note eligibility details. Some laboratories have citizenship restrictions (open only to U.S. citizens and permanent residents) and some laboratories have research opportunities that are not open to senior applicants (more than 5 years beyond the PhD). When searching for research opportunities you may limit your search to only those laboratories which match your eligibility criteria. In addition, note the application deadlines as not all laboratories participate in all reviews.

Research Assistant Biomechanics

Research Assistant - Biomechanics Organization: Bone and Joint Center - Henry Ford Hospital

Applicants are invited to apply for a research assistant position within the Biomechanics Section of the Bone and Joint Center Research Laboratories at Henry Ford Hospital. The candidate will be part of a collaborative group of investigators with expertise in biomechanics, computational mechanics, motion analysis, animal models, anatomy, cell biology, histology, biochemistry and molecular biology. Primary job requirements include planning and performing various experiments which may use animal or cadaver models, assisting with the analysis and interpretation of the data, assisting in the preparation of scientific reports and maintaining of
laboratory equipment.

The candidate will be expected to learn laboratory methods in areas other than his/her area of training. The position is available immediately. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Please note that this position allows continuing education for an appropriate candidate. Henry Ford Hospital is less than 2 miles from Wayne State University which has a full Engineering graduate program designed around night classes. Qualifications:
The positions require a BS or MS degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Candidates with non-engineering background but with experience at the tissue mechanics/biology interface will be considered.
