20 Postdoc Fellowships, Germany

20 Postdoc Fellowships : LMU Munich Germany :
20 Postdoctoral Fellowships are available at LMU Muich Germany. The applicant must have completed his/her doctoral studies at another university – preferably outside Germany – no more than three years prior to application. The majority of applicants are expected to be from outside Germany.

Deadline : 15 April 2009

General Description
LMU will be awarding the 20 research fellowships to candidates who have completed their doctoral studies in any field, having graduated no more than three years ago with outstanding results. The fellows must be able to design a research project and successfully carry it through to completion. They will have two full years to conduct their research at LMU and expand their academic profile. Upon a positive evaluation of the research achievement, the fellowship may be extended by another two years.

The young academics shall be integrated into the university as comfortably as possible during their research stay: they will be provided with workplaces within one of the faculties, where they can also become immediately involved in teaching if they desire. The candidate’s application must therefore include a statement of support from a professor of LMU Munich. This support statement shall confirm that the planned project will be supported intellectually and with the necessary infrastructure. The fellows will also be associated with the Center for Advanced Studies and be able to make use of its services.

LMU research fellows receive an attractive compensation according to the German salary scheme “Tarifvertrag der Länder (TVL)” (typically TV-L Group E 14). Up to € 10,000 per annum will be available as material and travel expenses. Additional grants may be provided as start-up funding for research projects and reimbursement for the costs of relocation. Also, in the first two years following completion of their research stay, the fellows may be provided with additional funding for material and travel expenses so that cooperative efforts with LMU Munich can continue beyond the fellowship period.
Closing date for applications is 15 April 2009.
