Various scholarships are available for PhD studies at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. Applicants from non-EEA countries and developing countries are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Therefore, Pakistani students are eligible to apply.

PhD DBOF Scholarships
Leuven Arenberg Doctoral School for Science, Engineering and Technology is looking for dynamic and motivated persons with a keen interest and a passion for advanced research. 21 Scholarships are available covering the following topics:
Development, plasticity and regeneration of the visual system: 2 scholarships
Identification of sucrose sensors in plants: 2 scholarships
Nutrient sensing in the yeasts Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida albicans: 2 scholarships
Metabolic pathway models for virtual life: 3 scholarships
New transgenic strategies for increased fungus and drought resistance in banana: 2 scholarships
Computational Quantum Chemical Study of Compounds Related to the Hydrogen Storage and Energy: 1 scholarship
Ionic liquids: 3 scholarships
Relational Learning for Text and Image: 2 scholarships
Multscale particle based simulation software: 1 scholarship
Cryptography for Ambient Intelligence: 2 scholarships
Model reduction techniques for the efficient solution of multi-parameter linear models in engineering dynamics: 1 scholarship

A scholarship includes:
A monthly allowance for a 4 year period (a preceeding predoctoral year may be included depending on the prior qualifications)
Social security and insurances etc
The scholarships are targeted at candidates from non-EEA countries

IRO Scholarships Programme
As one of its contributions to development co-operation, K.U.Leuven offers each academic year scholarships to deserving students from developing countries to do their PhD in the largest university in Belgium. IRO scholarships (IRO in Dutch stands for Interfacultaire Raad voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking), this scholarship programme has supported more than sixty Ph.D. graduates over the past five years. Essential to the application for the IRO scholarship and to completing a doctoral programme successfully is the choice of a good doctoral research topic and supervisor.

New applicants are now provided two alternatives:
either by selecting amongst the priority research fields offered by the doctoral schools
or by submitting their own personal research proposal.
